A logbook is an important document which is a permanent record of your progress through the Apprenticeship Program. You should take great care to see that this progress is kept up to date at all times by ensuring that the required information is recorded properly.
You should also be aware that it is a punishable offense under the Apprenticeship Act for you or another to falsify this document.
When a prospective apprentice obtains employment, application is made to the
Department to register as an apprentice. The apprentice signs a
Memorandum of
Understanding of Apprenticeship
PDF with the employer and the Industrial
Training Section.
Both the apprentice and the employer receive a short in-service training session from the Program Development Officer regarding the proper method for completing the logbook.
The Program Development Officer verifies that courses are successfully completed from an official transcript of marks and records verification of courses in the logbook.
The journeyperson supervisor validates the performance of each work experience and confirms that the competence has been achieved. The apprentice is also required to verify the performance of each work experience completed under the journeyperson supervisor.
The employer confirms the total number of hours of work spent by the apprentice in the occupation.
When all courses are completed, competence has been achieved in all required work experiences, and the required number of hours of work have been verified by the employer, the apprentice completes a statement of eligibility to write the certification examination.
