Design and Construction Division

Responsibilities:

The Design and Construction Division is responsible for administration and management of the K-12 school capital construction program which includes new construction, extensions, renovations and/or redevelopments as well as all major maintenance for existing school infrastructure within the province.

Services

  • Provides recommendations and budget estimates to government related to forecasts and immediate requirements in the area of new school construction and major extensions and/or renovations as well as capital maintenance of school buildings.
  • Provides technical expertise to other Departments, school boards and engineering/architectural consultants on issues related to programming, school design and construction.
  • Provides consultative services to school boards on matters related to school building maintenance, air quality and water quality matters and capital renewal.
  • Ensures compliance of school construction to the Department of Education’s procedures and approved specifications, the provisions of the School Planning Manual, good engineering practices, the Schools Act 1997, applicable building codes and regulations and legislative requirements of other regulatory authorities.

Clients

Clients are the five provincial school boards, other government departments, engineering/architectural consultants, contractors and individuals requesting information on provincial school buildings.
