Financial Services Division
The Division is responsible for the following services in support of the
Department’s mandate:
• Compliance and Financial Reporting
• Registry
• Finance and General Operations
• Teachers’ Payroll
• School Transportation
Services
Compliance and Financial Services
- Prepare and monitor the department’s annual budget
- Provide budgetary advice, ongoing financial analysis, financial reports and consultative services
- Ensure financial monitoring systems are in place
- Provide financial analysis of entities reporting to the department
- Manage and coordinate the preparation of the department’s three year financial plan
- Provide audit confirmation to entities reporting to the department
- Provide administrative and financial services for school board operations and teaching services
Finance and General Operations
- Provide general accounting services
- Ensure all financial activities within the department are consistent
with departmental and governmental policies, procedures, regulations and
legislation, including the Financial Administration Act
- Provide general operation services
- Provide grant payments to entities reporting to the department
- Maintain financial policies and procedures manuals
- Provide financial services for the Private Training Corporation
School Transportation (Busing)
- Provide for the delivery and administration of the Provincial School
Transportation Program including funding and policy direction
- Responsible for the financial administration of the Design and
Construction Division
Registry
- Manage and maintain the department’s registry
- Coordinate the record management activities of the department
Teachers’ Payroll
- Manage a fully computerized payroll function for the province’s
teachers, school district staff and student assistants
- Administer the Deferred Salary Leave Plan and Education Leave Plan for
teachers
- Administer the Student Assistant’s Group Insurance Program
- Administer the life to date pension records for teachers
- Maintain and monitor the annual allocation of full time teacher staffing
units
- Maintain a leave control system
- Maintain appropriate policy and procedure manuals
- Monitor budgeted funds for substitute teachers and student assistants
- Provide advice, consultation services, reports and information to
various stakeholders
- Provide in-service training and ongoing support to schools and school
districts on computerized payroll
