Public school boards in Newfoundland and Labrador administer the daily operations of Kindergarten to Grade 12 schools within their district. The boards are funded by the Department of Education, are guided by trustees, and operate in geographic areas (Labrador, Western, Central, Eastern, and the province-wide Francophone board). Elections are held every four years to fill the 15 trustee sets on each of the boards (members of the Francophone board are elected separately by individual schools councils). Adult Canadian citizens who ordinarily reside in one of these areas are eligible to run for a seat on the board, and/or vote on municipal poling day for applicable trustee candidates.
