Gifted and talented behaviours may be dynamic. They may also coexist with another exceptionality.
Students recognized as gifted or talented by an appropriate professional may require a range of school based services depending on level of need and functioning. Many differentiation strategies are appropriate for these learners. Curriculum compacting, tiered assignments and independent study are particularly suited for very able learners. Subject acceleration, grade skipping or advanced programming are other possibilities.
Programming decisions are made by the student's program planning team and may include accommodations, modified prescribed (to extend the curriculum and add challenge) or alternate curricular courses (above and beyond the grade level offerings of the prescribed curriculum).
