Payment Deferral

The province’s old interest relief program is still available for provincial students having difficulty in repayment. In the past, eligible students were not required to pay interest or make principal payments on their loans for up to 54 months; loan balances outstanding were required to be paid at the end of the interest relief period.

Effective August 1, 2009, interest on loans is eliminated. However if you are having difficulty repaying your loan, you can still apply to have payments on the principal portion of your provincial loan deferred for up to 54 months. The federal Repayment Assistance Plan application is used to determine eligibility for deferral of payments on your provincial student loan.
