Up-front Provincial Grants

If assessed need is greater that $60 per week of study for the provincial student loan, you are eligible for the Up-Front grant.

When will I get my grant?

Payment will be issued six weeks after the start of the semester, provided you have submitted a fully completed Income Confirmation Form PDF.

What if I don’t submit my Income Confirmation Form?

You will be deemed ineligible to receive the grant portion of your provincial assistance.

How will I get my grant?

  • If you are attending Memorial University of Newfoundland, Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, or the Marine Institute, the grant amount is directly deposited into your bank account.
  • If you are attending another Canadian public or private educational institution, a grant cheque will be issued. The cheque is made payable to you and sent to the educational institution. Full-time student status must be confirmed by the educational institution, prior to releasing the cheque to you.
  • If you are attending an educational institution outside the country, a grant cheque will be issued. The cheque will be sent to you by post, to the address provided to the Student Financial Services Division. However, the educational institution must first confirm your full-time enrolment.

Is the grant repayable?

No. The grant is part of your provincial assistance for the current semester. It is non-repayable.
